Breaking the 100mpg barrier
To date, 92 mpg is the best we have achieved using our fuel vapor system and a standard internal combustion engine. Because our focus is on breaking the 100mpg barrier and winning the X-PRIZE our next prototype will be a series hybrid. It will use electric power for most of its time on the road with longer distances being accomplished using a small on-board “range extending “generator running on regular gasoline and our fuel vapor system. This prototype will be built and ready for testing this summer.
Competing in the X-PRIZE
FVT will use the “Automotive X-PRIZE” competition as a platform to market our company, the car and our technologies to the world. We are one of only 2 Canadian entries in this international competition that currently involves 7 countries and 50+ teams in a race to find the world’s fastest and most fuel efficient vehicle. With oil prices hitting $100 per barrel, global warming, and energy alternatives all becoming water cooler discussions, the eyes of the world will be on this competition and FVT will be on the world stage. The alé will stand out as one of the few “original design” vehicles as most companies are using pre-existing cars for the race.
Production
Production is planned just after the X-PRIZE competition starting with 100-200 hand built vehicles per year. Once the production line is perfected, FVT will partner with another company that has the capacity to increase production to 10,000 units per year.
